More Makes

I made a friend a Kindle case today so that she can safely take her Kindle on holiday.

I drew this little fella the other day from a photo I took a few years ago for a possible card design.

And I designed this owl bag as part of our course's fund raising for New Designers. Everyone contributed their own designs for us to screen print onto tote bags. I bought two for my Mum and Grandma for Christmas.

Flutterbyes

A card and wrap range I produced Autumn last year. Drawn from my own photography taken at Tropical World in Leeds.

What a Hoot!

I received this gorgeous owl watch today from my Grandma Doris! It's a congratulations present for getting a 2:1 in my degree. It's so cute and I shall treasure and use it always. Thank you Doris!

Fruity Findings

When my Mum was little and my Grandma would take her shopping, she would be fascinated by all the tissue packaging that the fruit used to be wrapped in. My Mum's always loved anything Geography based (she studied it at university and was an Air Hostess!) so the different countries on the wrappers intrigued her. Well she's kept them all these years and showed me them today in a really old Quality Street tin. They really are fascinating, being a printer the logos and designs really caught my eye. I can see them as big screen prints.

Ingenious

My Dad has always made weird and wonderful contraptions and crafty things out of anything, that I would never have thought up myself. I came home from work today and he'd found a box of till rolls in our attic... so this is what he created to get use out of them.. a shopping list dispenser! love it!

Back up North

I'm back in the North now, it's nice to be back but I definitely miss all my uni people already. I was working in Wetherby today and had a swim afterwards. I've not swum in months since all my last hand-ins and exhibitions. It was a lovely day although I managed to drop my cardigan along the way somewhere, it's only a week old too! Here are some photos from today of picturesque Wetherby. Having a bit of fun with Hipstamatic on my Iphone!

There's nothing better than getting a beautifully wrapped package through the post, or at least in some form of interesting packaging. I try and include this for my own products. Here are two fabric baskets I've sent off today with my new personalised stickers on!

Day Three, Four & Five: New Designers

Day three, four and five were open to both the public and industry visitors. It was very exciting to witness my fellow DMU students receive varied industry interest, I had a company request my cushions in wholesale which is very exciting and had a couple of people from the press quiz me about my work. It was also very interesting to wander around and see other people's work as you remain in a small bubble when it's just the people from your course. I made some useful contacts and came away with a better insight into my industry then when I went in. I also attended a couple of advice seminars on setting up businesses and branding your business which provided me with some very useful information. I can't wait to get started now!

Day Three: New Designers

Day three was closed to the public until 3pm as the judges were looking around everybody's work ready for the award ceremony that evening. I had 4 people quiz me about my work that morning which was exciting. Some amazing work won the awards that evening and there were lots of yummy free drinks as Absolut vodka was a sponsor. Lucky us were situated right next to the bar so we didn't have to go far for refills!

Day Two: New Designers

I didn't have much chance to go on the internet while in London this past week, but I am now back in Leeds as of today so here is a summary of my amazing week exhibiting at New Designers!

On day two we finished setting up all of our display spaces. Here is my finished space!
